Monday was a day all devoted to getting a Visa. I had applied on Saturday, and was caught in world politics. I could not pickup until Monday after 2 PM in Hong Kong. It seems that the P.R.C. (Peoples Republic of China), is still upset with Bush and now requires Americans to wait an extra day than any one else. So I could not take the Decca van back Monday morning, and had to wait until the afternoon to go back to the plant in Dahlingshan.
So here is the day’s timeline:
8:00 AM Up for shower – figured I could sleep later
BTW: shower = so tight = I couldn’t lift leg to wash feet
9:00 AM Breakfast in hotel = worse eggs & bacon I’ve ever had = $28HK
9:45 AM Online with laptop in hotel = $40HK
11:30 AM Checked out of hotel in North Point
11:45 AM Taxi to Central station = $92HK
12:30 PM Checked bags at “Left Baggage” counter so not to carry
12:45 PM Walked to Bank of America office for cash
– not same Bank of America as US, so extra charges $?
1:00 PM Walked to Peak Tram station – through park and up hills
1:20 PM Took Tram to overlook of Hong Kong (check pics) = $20HK
1:35 PM Ate sandwich from deli at top = $52HK
1:50 PM Tram down to bottom
2:00 PM Took bus to Admiralty MTR (Mass Transit Rail) station = $5HK
2:10 PM Arrived at subway – always incredibly long walk underground
2:15 PM Departed subway = $9HK
2:20 PM Arrived Tsim Sha Shui MTR station across harbor
2:25 PM Arrived at Visa office – visa waiting for pickup = $1220HK
2:30 PM Shopped for snacks at local drugstore = $106HK
2:40 PM Walked back to Tsim Sha Shui MTR station
2:45 PM Subway back to Central MTR = $9HK
2:52 PM Arrived Central MTR station
3:05 PM Finally arrived at “Left Baggage” – what a walk & a mile of escalators = $135HK
3:10 PM Took bags and headed to Taxi stand
3:15 PM Hailed taxi to head back across harbor through tunnel = $120HK
3:25 PM Arrived China Hong Kong Ferry Terminal – as big as a small airport
3:30 PM Bought ticket on TurboJet ferry to Senzchen = $189HK
3:40 PM Passed through customs from Hong Kong
3:55 PM Boarded ferry
4:00 PM Ferry disembarked from dock & picked up speed to Mainland
5:00 PM Stopped to wait for dock to clear of other boats
5:15 PM Arrived at Senzchen Airport dock
5:25 PM Passed customs into P.R.C.
5:30 PM Decca driver hailed me to company van
5:40 PM Headed onto highway in van to Dahlingshan
6:30 PM Arrived at Decca plant and “hotel”
6:45 PM Went to office to check on dinner
7:00 PM Engineer Paul Lau assigned to take me to dinner – since no other managers on site for night
7:15 PM Took van to downtown Dahlingshan to Milan restaurant
7:30 PM Had nice dinner of pork chops and spaghetti = $ Paul paid
8:30 PM Visited shopping center across street to price DVD recorders
9:15 PM Departed back to “hotel”
9:25 PM Arrived back at “hotel”
So taxi, tram, subway, turbo ferry, and vans all in a day to get a visa.
BTW: $7.7 HK = $1 US
