Miscellaneous Notes
Some miscellaneous points:
- No Mountain Dew here! Pepsi, Yes! Mtn Dew = No! My son will probably not visit here now, without at least bringing his own supply. Me = I’m having withdrawal! It’s been over a month without a Mountain Dew! Ahhhhhhh!!!
- Iced Tea – available in Hong Kong - is served with a small pitcher of honey to sweeten. And with about 5 sliced lemons.
- 10% service charge on most everything. No tipping required otherwise.
- Cans, Coke, beer, etc. have the old pull off tabs – I forgot how many don’t pull off cleanly. What a pain.
- Chinese cleaners exist! - I leave clothes in basket in “hotel” in morning, and clothes are in my closet washed, ironed, and pressed in afternoon!!
- Can’t find Cranapple juice – another withdrawal!! - only find cranberry juice in Hong Kong
- Hong Kong cabs = all red Toyota Crown models w/ automatic rear doors
- Spitting can get you a $1500HK fine in Hong Kong
- World’s longest escalator is in Hong Kong to “mid-levels” – a popular ex-pat living area
- There must be an escalator for every person in Hong Kong – maintenance for them has to be a great career here
- You rarely get a napkin here – it’s more common to just have a roll of toilet tissue to use – toilet rolls are everywhere = bathrooms for drying hands, etc. Roger Taylor better bring his own cloth napkins here.
- Honking is against the law in Senzchen. It is sure not here – or else, everybody is violating.
- Television almost always on at every meal. At every restaurant, dinner party, or any meal, even the wedding reception I attended, always has loud TV in corner.
