My View
I’m not used to living in the penthouse. Okay, I’m not in the penthouse. But my little flat is on the 16th floor of 19 floors – minus 4th and 14th (they are “bad” numbers here). That’s plenty high enough for a guy that doesn’t particularly like heights.
Today, I’m including some of the views from my New World Garden apartment. I spent much of Saturday evening and Sunday walking around the surrounding area. It is quite beautiful in its own way and extremely busy too. From my room I can see the Dongcheng Cultural Center. I think Dongcheng is the town within Dongguan City in which I live. The Center is practically below my apartment and includes a park, which is mostly covered in granite (cheap here) or concrete. There are basketball courts, badminton courts, a large arena, kids play area, and karaoke stand – all outdoors.
At nighttime the place is really alive! There are games on every court – both basketball and badminton. The karaoke is busy with wannabes all singing loudly. A huge TV screen broadcast the singers or other shows to the masses that assemble.
Beyond the park is Moon Bay. It amazes me how they love English names for things even when the name has no bearing to the area. I sure don’t see any water other than a bunch of their own pools there, but to them they call it a “Bay”. Other places around here all have California names: Laguna Verona, Beverly Hills.
Moon Bay is a large high-rise apartment or condo complex. And there are many shops nearby. The shops are very beautiful and high quality. A walk through the four floors of the atrium includes clothes, jewelry, and high fashions of all types. A new shopping department store, already named Moon Plaza, looks like it’s straight out of Disney with colorful turrets and Victorian styling. It’s not open yet, but it sure looks great at night.
And I even have a sofa in my living room now. Decca helped me get a unit from excess stock, and I had it covered in leather. It’s too small for sleeping, but a nice addition to the room.
While shopping yesterday at another fashionable store, Ole´, I picked up some other items for my apartment. I got a nice cabinet for the bathroom – there was nowhere to store anything, and a hamper basket for my room. So the apartment is shaping up. Slowly but nicely.
So life is getting better on the 16th floor. Of course, that’s only the 14th since they don’t have a 4th or 14th. But wait a minute, they start with the ground being the “0” floor. And there is a basement that is “–1” floor or so it says on the elevator button. So let me think, that makes me on the 15th floor……….. or does it…… I give up… I’m up high enough, push the 16 button on the elevator when ya come to visit.
